What universe is this game set in?
The game is set in the Marvel universe during the Civil War story arc. The game opens on July 1, 2007, four months after the death of Captain America.
What is this Rift you keep talking about?
To imprison members of the powered community who refused to register with the SHRA, Reed Richards helped construct a prison in the Negative Verse that can only be reached through an interdimensional portal with an insane level of security attached to it. Now that that prison has been raided by the rebels, Richards attempted to form another portal into a different dimension in which to construct a new prison. The rebels, however, caught wind of the plan and attempted to destroy this portal creating device without using an owners manual, leading to the creation of a tear in the multi-verse. The moment this happened, people from all over the world simple vanished and have since began slowly reappearing. The Rift is this hole in the multiverse and is the general term used to explain where people vanished to.
What on earth is a multi-canon character?
Every comic character has several different versions of their canon history, personality, and abilities. Whether this is due to AU comic universes, movies, animated series, video games, other media, or a combination of the above, all characters have some form of different canons. A multi-canon character is one formed from a combination of the various versions of canon. Rather that having five different versions of a character around, the player of the character will pick the bits and pieces that s/he enjoys about the character from the different canons and combine them to make one hybrid character. There are a few exceptions to what canon can be used, we will not have any Hulk zombies running around, for instance, however, anything that isn't radically out of setting it welcome. If you have any questions on whether an item may be appropriate please contact the moderators before applying.
I can't find how old my character is during the Civil War, what should I put on the app?
One of the wonderful things about comic book series is how difficult it is to pin down a character's exact age. Peter Parker started being seventeen in 1962, for instance, meaning he should be a whopping 62 years old when the Civil War occurs. Obviously, this isn't the case. For age all we ask is your character be in a realistic age range for how the character looks/acts in 2007, and that the character remains in the same kind of age relations to other characters as is most prevalent in canon (IE: Peter Parker is at least a decade younger than Tony Stark, Tony cannot suddenly be five years younger than Peter). For characters not from the Marvel universe, please use the general age range they would be in the year 2007. There is a tear in the divide between worlds, not the space/time continuum. While there are versions of canon with a character as a radically different age than most commonly seen, such as the teenage Tony Stark from the recent TV series, the mods wish for characters to be portrayed in their most common age range for this game. If it is critical to your concept of the character that s/he be significantly older/younger than most commonly seen, please contact the mods. With a strong enough argument we may be persuaded on a case by case basis.
I'm more of a movie fan and not very familiar with the Civil War story line, or the comics in general. Should I not apply?
Of course you should apply! In depth knowledge of the world the game is set in is not required, so long as you know your character. By coming back through the rift, even characters that were actively involved in the war may no longer have that information. The versions of characters that vanished will not necessarily be the versions that reappear. Playing a straight up from the Edward Norton movie Hulk be a completely acceptable character, for instance. Players must realize, however, that the game is still ground in the Civil War universe. Simply because their character does not recall certain actions and events does not mean the rest of the world forgot. The world will still remember that Peter Parker unmasked on national television, for instance, and the player of that character will have to roll with the consequences of that regardless if Peter himself remembers doing it.
How should I format my posts in the community? What about my own journal?
We've put together an entry about posting and tagging here.
How do I search using tags?
Tags are amazing. We've said it before and we'll say it again. Tags allow you to search journals and communities for entries that interest you.
For example, you can search for any player's HMD post like this:
http://username-goes-here.insanejournal.com/tag/hmd
Example: http://starktech.insanejournal.com/tag/hYou can search any player's journal for entries tagged with a specific tag- spaces are transformed into + signs:md

Example: http://thedividemods.insanejournal.com/tYou can search for multiple tags in a user's journal by putting a comma between tags, too:ag/guidelines
